Humanworkshop teamed up with animators Wip Vernooi and Joost Liewema to create a short film for Experience Expo, to be used for their business fair presentation at Eventex, at the "Jaarbeurs" in Utrecht.
The client wanted something completely different, and they had in mind they wanted the visitors to lie down during the presentation.
The company had no straightforward plan when we got there, all they had in mind was having the visitors to lie down during the presentation. This meant a lot of freedom for us, and we used it well. We developed a concept for the movie and presentation in order to reach a maximal effect on the visitors. The visitors were lying down in a circle in order for the stereo image to be correct at all the time, with speakers next to their ears and a large plasma screen above their heads. In order to get the Experience really going, we decided to use "vibrating elements" in the beds used for the visitors to lie down on.
This meant however that the movie could not be played on a regular computer, we needed a medium which could support 4 tracks of audio at the same time, which is of course DVD. We reconfigured the set up so that 2 tracks of the available 6 (in Dolby 5.1) could be used for normal audio playback, while the other two tracks supported the two vibrating elements. The effect was so heavy that the first couple of visitors leaving the stand were completely shocked, but once the word got out the people were standing in line to "Enjoy the Experience".
Since these fairs are a very competitive business, there were some prizes involved in different categories. Due to our innovative design and concept the company went home with the "Overall Winner" prize. The Jury: Innovative on all fronts, challenging, the stand uses all available resources to present itself and the concept is complete.
The project was finished within four weeks.
